Shiga's One World Import Shop, Seattle

Custom, four-panel security gate in brushed aluminum. Designed by Lauren Iida based on research by Lawrence Matsuda and the Shiga family legacy.
​Lifelong pacifist Andy Shiga founded his iconic imports shop in the late 1950s and it remains a pillar of the University District today. 
​

Gate imagery includes traditional Japanese clouds, rabbit in the moon, Shiga family crest, shoji screens, boats on the Puget Sound, judokas, and a ballet dancer. 
On the left panel, a University District streetscape includes the annual street fair, the longest -running street fair in the United States which was founded in the 1969 by Andy Shiga.
