"This piece references my time living in a remote rural village in eastern Cambodia. The residents in the village had suffered enormously under the oppressive and genocidal Khmer Rouge regime just one generation earlier. I remain deeply fascinated and moved by their resilience, their love and commitment to family, their tendency to seek joy and celebrate life whenever possible, and their fortitude to carry on."
